I created 'TheLateFriend' because I am the "late friend" in my friend group. In one way or another, it always takes me a little longer to reach my destination. I keep 'thelatefriend' because life isn't about the destination, it's about the journey.
Hush. You didn't know, you had no idea.
It's not an all girls school without men, it's a Women's college without boys.
Working to make my dreams a reality.
I've been told that I am an acquired taste, on the outside I appear to be indifferent, impassive, even mean. Although I can be serious at times, not so deep down I'm a goof who enjoys making other people smile. Travel, style, and decor keep me going. Posts featuring baby animals makes me smile.
Growing up, I was the girl with platform sneakers, tweety bird overalls, and the Lisa Frank binder. The pioneering "fashionista" of my South Carolina elementary school. Somewhere between adolescence and adulthood I lost that self-appointed freedom of expression. I didn't want to be the "odd one out", so I said what I thought people wanted to hear and dressed liked everyone else.
Going to (back to college) at Mount Holyoke empowered me to lean into my quirkiness and make it my superpower. "Everyone else is taken, so be yourself." The perceived reality of faking it until you make it is grueling, unforgiving, and othering. Being on campus, as a nontraditional student, I understood how much simpler and more satisfying it is to just be myself. Now, I've returned to only wearing clothes that make me happy, speaking my truth, and doing the things that bring me joy.
'TheLateFriend' is what I needed in middle school — a break from sconex and a place where I could be my authentic-weird-self. 20+ years and a few diagnoses later, it has not been easy, in fact it is a constant task staying true to myself and creating my own happiness.
I invite you to embrace your authentic self, discover fantastic products, and let's make 'The Late Friend' a hub for celebrating individuality and finding happiness in our quirks. Together, we'll transform this journey into something remarkable.
Thanks for visiting!
